About
Andréa Sherpa-Zimmermann is a Swiss former ski-mountaineering racer turned ultra-trail runner and high-altitude mountaineer. Born on 18 August 1976 in Biel/Bienne and based in Monthey, she competed for the Swiss national ski-mountaineering team from 2001, taking 2nd place at the Patrouille des Glaciers in 2004 and podium finishes at races including the Trophée des Gastlosen and Sellaronda Skimarathon through the early 2010s. She later moved into summer ultra-trail running, winning the CCC at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, before redirecting her endurance career toward high-altitude mountaineering: in 2016 she became the ninth Swiss woman to summit Mount Everest, climbing a technical Tibetan route in alpine style with her husband and reaching the summit before dawn. A lawyer specializing in international sports law, she is also co-founder of the Butterfly Help Project supporting Sherpa families, co-founder of a Himalaya-made outdoor clothing brand, and co-director of Wild Yak Expeditions.
