About
Annemarie Gross is an Italian ultra-trail runner from South Tyrol who established herself as one of Europe's most formidable mountain ultra competitors in the 2010s, with a particular mastery of the very longest distances. She became the first female athlete to win the Tor des Géants — the epic 330-kilometre circumnavigation of the Aosta Valley with 24,000 metres of elevation — consecutively, winning the first women's title in 2010 (91:19:13) and defending it in 2011 (91:28:31), a double that stood for years as a benchmark of women's mountain ultra performance. Beyond the Tor, she won the Transkarukera Ultra (131 km, Guadeloupe) outright in 2017 and took the PITZ 100 category title in 2018, and claimed multiple gender-category victories at the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace in 2013 and 2014. With a career UTMB Index of 533 and competitive results spanning from 2010 to the mid-2020s, Gross demonstrated a longevity at the elite level that is rare in such a demanding discipline.
