About

Armando Teixeira is a Portuguese trail runner, coach, and race director who came to the sport at age 33 on a dare from a work colleague and within three years had become one of Portugal's most internationally recognised mountain ultra competitors. Born in northern Portugal and based near Braga, he began racing in 2008 and progressed quickly through regional events to major international stage. His defining results include winning the Madeira Island Ultra Trail (MIUT, 115 km) in 2012, winning the Celestrail in 2017, finishing second at the Ronda dels Cims (170 km, Andorra) in 2014, and placing inside the top 20 at both UTMB and Transgrancanaria in 2015 and 2016 — a level of consistency across two of the sport's hardest courses that earned him a dual-race invitation for multiple seasons. He served as team captain of Portugal at two consecutive Trail World Championships and was subsequently appointed Portugal's National Trail Running Selector. He is also the founder and race director of the Estrela Grande Trail (EGT), an 85-kilometre race across Serra da Estrela, mainland Portugal's highest mountain range. A Berg Outdoor and Prozis team athlete, Teixeira is one of the most respected figures in Iberian trail running.
