About
Ashley Arnold is an American ultrarunner, journalist, and contemporary dancer from the US Southeast who built one of the most varied résumés in the sport: a former state high school 300-metre hurdle champion, she rediscovered competitive running on Colorado's trails after moving to Carbondale in her mid-twenties to intern at Trail Runner magazine. She won her first 50K outright in 2008 (Dizzy Fifties, Alabama), took first at the Collegiate Peaks 50M in Colorado in 2010 in her debut at that distance, and finished her first Leadville 100 on the podium. In 2013 she delivered one of the most dominant single-season performances of her era, winning the Leadville Trail 100 Run in 20:25:43 — leading from wire to wire through the highest 100-miler in the American West — and adding the White River 50M a few weeks earlier, earning Julbo sponsorship and wide attention in the ultrarunning world. After a period focused on dance and journalism, she returned to competition in 2015. A co-founder of a contemporary dance company in Carbondale and a contributor to multiple outdoor publications, Arnold is a distinctive voice in trail running who embodies the sport's breadth beyond pure competition.
