About

Benoît Laval is a French trail runner, entrepreneur, and textile engineer who has raced for more than three decades across the world's toughest terrain. He began competitive running at age 10 and moved into trail running in 1990 while studying engineering, going on to complete more than 200 trail races in over 25 countries with roughly 50 victories, including 11 wins at the Défi de l'Oisans. He placed 2nd at the Grand Raid de la Réunion in 2003, 9th at the Marathon des Sables in 2004, and 5th at the 400km non-stop Gobi Ultra Trail Race in China in 2015, finishing in 106 hours. He was runner-up French trail champion in 2009 and represented France's national trail team in 2010. Laval has also taken on the Barkley Marathons three times (2016-2018), completing two loops, and is a two-time French snowshoe running champion and an Orienteering Marathons World Trophy winner. He founded the outdoor gear brand Raidlight, using his own racing as a testing ground for the products he designed.
