Charles Corfield is an American ultrarunner, mountaineer and technology entrepreneur — best known as the co-creator of FrameMaker desktop-publishing software — who took up ultra-distance racing after a career in software and research. In his very first attempt at the 100-mile distance, the 2007 Leadville Trail 100 Run, he finished 3rd overall in 19:42, an immediate breakthrough that established him among the race's stronger age-group competitors for years afterward. He returned to Leadville multiple times through the 2010s and remained active across Colorado's high-altitude ultra circuit, with strong showings at the Jemez Mountain Trail Runs, Run Rabbit Run and Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Run. Beyond running, Corfield summited Mount Everest in 2012 and has conducted research into the effects of high-altitude exposure on human physiology, bringing a scientist's curiosity to his own endurance pursuits. He has completed 32 ultra-distance races to date, with his 2007 Leadville podium standing as the high point of a long and varied career in the mountains.
