About

Christiaan Greyling is a South African trail and ultrarunner based in Stellenbosch, widely regarded as the most dominant figure in South African trail racing of the past decade. An industrial engineer by training with a supply-chain qualification, he began competing in adventure racing in 2008 before pivoting exclusively to trail running in 2012, accumulating more than 60 podium finishes across two continents in the years that followed. His résumé covers South Africa's full spectrum of prestigious ultra distances: he is a multiple champion at Ultra Trail Cape Town 100K, Skyrun 100K, Heaven and Hell 90K, and Table Mountain Challenge 42K, and in 2017 set the South African course record at the celebrated Otter African Trail Run (42km, 4:13:16). He has proven equally competitive in Europe, finishing 6th at Mont Blanc 80K, 2nd at the Grand Raid Pyrenees in France, and 2nd overall in the eight-day Transalps stage race across the Alps. In 2021, Greyling and compatriot AJ Calitz broke the Guinness World Record for greatest vertical distance climbed on foot in 20 hours, ascending 19,376 metres across 14 repeats of Table Mountain's Platteklip Gorge. He and his wife Landie Greyling co-founded Alpasfit, an online running coaching business based in the Western Cape.
