Daniela Marinheiro is a Portuguese mountain ultra-trail runner born in 1977 who competed on the European trail circuit during the early years of the sport's international expansion. She placed 2nd among women at the inaugural Madeira Island Ultra Trail (MIUT) in 2011 — a 116km point-to-point traverse of Madeira from Porto Moniz on the northwest coast to Machico in the east, crossing the island's volcanic peaks — in a time of 22:17:18, behind winner Saioa Ortiz de Zuniga Murguruza (18:57:13). The MIUT has since grown into one of the Atlantic's most celebrated trail events; her podium finish came at the race's very first edition.
