About
Daniela Oemus is a German trail runner, Salomon team athlete, and physician from Dessau who in May 2023 became the first German woman to win Zegama-Aizkorri — claiming the legendary Basque skyrace at age 34 in one of trail running's most technically demanding and historically prestigious short-distance events. She came to running through her grandfather's club and discovered mountain and trail terrain after moving to Jena for her studies, winning the 63km Zugspitz Supertrail in her very first trail season in 2017. She has since competed across Alpine mountain racing, skyrunning, and the UTMB World Series, placing sixth in the trail short discipline at the UTMB World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Innsbruck. In July 2025 she won the women's race at the Eiger Ultra Trail by UTMB E101 in 8:11:21 on the modified 68.6km course through the Bernese Alps, ten minutes ahead of compatriot Eva Maria Sperger in a women's race led from front to back by German athletes. A German Ultratrail Champion and mother of two daughters who works as a physician, Oemus is one of Germany's most versatile and accomplished trail athletes across both skyrunning and longer mountain ultra distances.
