Danilo Lantermino is an Italian mountain and ultra-trail runner from Piedmont's Valle Varaita, born February 12, 1981, who built his base as a national-level mountain running competitor before becoming one of the region's most durable ultra-distance racers. Competing for A.S.D. Podistica Valle Varaita, he has repeatedly won his home Valle Varaita Trail and captured a Piedmont regional mountain-running relay title with his club. His signature performance came at the 2019 Tor des Géants, the 330km, 25,000m-of-gain loop around Italy's Aosta Valley considered one of the world's hardest trail races: racing through cold, snow, and ice on his debut at the distance, he passed French runner Romain Olivier in the closing stages to move from fourth to third place, finishing in 3 days, 7 hours, 9 minutes and 46 seconds. In 2025 he added the M50K age-category win at the 100 Miglia del Monviso, a 50km, 3,000m-gain route through the Po Valley and lower Valle Varaita starting from Sanfront — proof that, well into his forties, he remains among the strongest mountain runners to come out of Cuneo province.
