About

Dawn Greenwalt is an American ultrarunner and critical care nurse who competes in multi-day ultra events while working full-time in the operating room and emergency room, raising two teenagers, and helping lead a local running group she established to bring athletes of all abilities together. She came to wider attention when she placed second in the women's race at the inaugural Cocodona 250 in 2021 — the first running of the 250-mile point-to-point traverse from Prescott to Flagstaff across Arizona's mountain and desert terrain — finishing in 90:08:33 behind race winner Maggie Guterl. Supported throughout by her husband David, who served as crew chief, and the team she calls 'Team Green,' her performance on the course — achieved without the resources of a professional athlete, between work shifts and family commitments — exemplifies the amateur-endurance spirit at the heart of multi-day ultra running. She fits her training into early morning hours before her family is awake and has built her race career around the belief that endurance running is accessible to anyone willing to pursue it relentlessly.
