DJ Fox is an American ultra-endurance athlete based in Durango, Colorado who crossed over into trail ultrarunning from the obstacle-course-racing world. After taking up structured endurance training in 2018, he built a competitive OCR résumé across Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, HYROX, and the GoRUCK Games, culminating in the men's title at World's Toughest Mudder in 2022. Settling in Durango that same year put him on the southern terminus of the Colorado Trail, and in September 2023 he attempted a supported fastest known time on the full 490-mile route, only to withdraw after 420 miles with pneumonia and a heart arrhythmia. He returned in 2024 with a revised strategy — higher weekly mileage, trekking poles, and a dedicated crew of pacers to manage nutrition and motivation — and completed the Colorado Trail in 7 days, 4 hours, and 37 minutes, an FKT with 86,000 feet of elevation gain. He has since moved into mountain ultra racing proper, taking third among men and fourth overall at the 2026 Cocodona 250 in Arizona in 59:29:03. Fox also works as an endurance and hybrid-training coach through his own coaching practice.
