About
Emilie Maroteaux is a French ultra-trail runner based on Réunion Island, where she works as a massage therapist and physiotherapist in Saint-Paul. She discovered trail running roughly a decade ago on Réunion's steep volcanic terrain and has built her career around the island's brutal high-altitude races, training upward of 15 hours a week. Her breakthrough came at the 2021 Grand Raid de la Réunion (Diagonale des Fous), the marquee 165km race that crosses the island coast-to-coast, which she won outright; she returned to the podium there in 2023 with a third-place finish. She has also found success further afield, taking second at the Swiss Canyon Trail 115km and third at Doi Inthanon by UTMB in Thailand, both in 2023, and finished the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc in 2024. Maroteaux remains one of Réunion's most accomplished ultra-trail exports, carrying the island's demanding mountain-running tradition onto the world stage.
