About
Geoff Roes is an American ultrarunner born April 14, 1976, who became one of the defining figures of the sport's golden era after relocating to Juneau, Alaska in 2005, where wilderness training shaped his approach. In 2009 he won the HURT 100 Mile, the Bear 100 Mile, and the Wasatch Front 100 Mile, setting a course record of 18:30:55. In 2010 he produced the most dominant single season in American ultrarunning history: winning Western States 100 in 15:07:04 — breaking Scott Jurek's course record by nearly nine minutes ahead of Anton Krupicka and Kilian Jornet — plus the White River 50 Mile, earning him Ultra Runner of the Year. After 2010 he experienced a multi-year decline from chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction, eventually stepping back from competitive racing. He went on to found the Alaska Mountain Ultrarunning Camp in Juneau, guiding athletes through wilderness terrain, and remains a respected voice on training limits and athlete health.
