About
Holly Ranson is an Australian ultra-endurance athlete, accredited practising dietitian, and PhD researcher whose multi-sport background and scientific precision have taken her to the top of the timed ultra event world. Based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, she began her sporting life as a sailor before moving through triathlon — winning an ITU Age Group World Championship title — to professional cycling in the National Road Series, before pivoting to trail and ultra running in 2019. The move proved inspired: Ranson holds multiple Australian national records across the 12-hour, 24-hour, 100-mile, and 200km timed formats, and owns course records at 50km and 100km trail races across Australia. Her finest competitive result came at the 2025 IAU 24-Hour World Championships in France, where she ran 274.172 kilometres to claim the silver medal and set new Australian and Oceanian 24-hour records. A self-coached and largely self-funded athlete, she conducts her competition alongside a doctoral thesis on nutrition and psychology in fire service personnel. Her entry into the 2026 Western States 100 marks her debut at one of the sport's great mountain 100-mile races.
