Jay Aldous is an American ultrarunner and endurance cyclist from Salt Lake City, Utah, whose racing career spans two eras separated by a 25-year hiatus. He finished the Western States 100 in 1980 at just 18 years old and ran the Wasatch Front 100 in 1983, then stepped away from competitive racing to focus on family and career — during which time he and cycling partner Matt DeWaal circumnavigated the globe by bike, covering 14,290 miles in 106 days. Since returning to ultrarunning in 2008, Aldous has racked up wins at the Devil's Backbone 50 Mile, the Salt Lake 100 Mile, and the Pony Express 100 Mile, along with top-five finishes at Leadville, Javelina Jundred, and Burning River 100. In 2011 he set a world record for the 50-54 age group with a 13:52 100-mile split at the Desert Solstice 24-Hour, and he still holds the Wasatch Front 100's 45-49 age-group course record (22:03:40).
