Jiří Čípa is a Czech mountain and trail runner who transitioned from a long football career — where he played as an aerobically tireless box-to-box type — into trail running for its mountains and welcoming community. Racing for the Salomon/Suunto team, he trains largely alone, without a coach, typically logging around 50 kilometres a week built around hill work, tempo efforts, and long runs rather than sheer volume. His breakthrough came at the 2019 CCC by UTMB, where he finished 3rd in one of the race's most competitive fields in 10:45:37 — a result he has called the greatest individual sporting success of his career. He has also placed 9th at the World Trail Running Championships and 4th at the World Mountain Running Championships long-course race, and won the Kalser Tauern Trail at Austria's GGUT with a course record. His sister Magda is also a competitive mountain runner.
