About

Joe Fejes is an American ultrarunner from Columbia, South Carolina, born in 1965, who specialises in multi-day timed events and holds the American six-day running record. A competitive runner through high school and college — he ran a 2:47 marathon PR in 1995 — he took a twelve-year break from the sport before returning to ultras at age 42 in 2008. Since then he has become one of the most accomplished multi-day runners in the United States: in 2015, at age 49, he set the American six-day record of 606.243 miles (975.7 km) at the EMU World Trophy in Hungary, becoming the first modern-day American to break the 600-mile barrier in six days. He beat the legendary Yiannis Kouros at the Across the Years 6-Day race (555.36 miles to Kouros's 550.157 miles), and also holds the American 50–54 age-group six-day record of 550.256 miles. His 24-hour PR stands at 156.626 miles, and he represented the United States at the IAU 24-Hour World Championships in the Netherlands in 2013.
