About
Joe McConaughy, known as "Stringbean," is an American ultrarunner, coach, and FKT specialist from Seattle, Washington who earned his trail name during a record-setting run on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2014. In 2017 he set the unsupported Fastest Known Time on the 2,186-mile Appalachian Trail, completing it in 45 days, 12 hours, and 15 minutes. He then turned his sights to competitive ultrarunning, winning the 2022 Cocodona 250 Mile in a course-record time of 59:28:54 — the fastest 250-mile finish ever at the time. A former Harvard cross country runner and founder of Stringbean Coaching, McConaughy is one of the most accomplished multi-discipline endurance athletes of his generation.
