Joe Schlereth is a California-based ultrarunner who was a fixture of the American 100-mile scene through the 1990s. At the Leadville Trail 100 he finished in 20:59:36 in 1994 and returned in 1996 to take 3rd place in 20:38:37. Earlier that same year he lined up against Ann Trason at the Silver State 50 Mile, where Trason out-kicked him in a close finish. Across his career Schlereth compiled more than 100 recorded ultramarathon results, a testament to the depth and longevity of grassroots American ultrarunning in that era.
