About

Johan Steene is a Swedish ultramarathon runner and industrial entrepreneur born December 25, 1973, who balances an elite endurance career with his role as co-founder and CEO of Teqnion AB, a Stockholm-based industrial conglomerate he founded in 2006. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and commutes to his Stockholm office by foot regardless of weather, embodying running as a philosophy of life. In October 2018 he won the Big Dog's Backyard Ultra — the de facto world championship of backyard ultrarunning — by completing 68 consecutive 4.167-mile loops for 283.335 miles (455.9 km) in 67 hours and 48 minutes, setting a course record and finishing ahead of Courtney Dauwalter. He took bronze at the 2017 IAU 24-Hour World Championship in Belfast (266.515 km), has competed at the Barkley Marathons four times, and completed the Vol State 500km. Steene is one of the clearest expressions in ultra running of the principle that elite endurance performance and a demanding professional life can reinforce rather than conflict with each other.
