John Ticer

John Ticer is a fixture of Oregon ultrarunning, with a competitive career at 50-plus mile distances spanning more than 34 years. He trained on the Western States course alongside notable ultrarunners including Craig Thornley and Andy Jones-Wilkins, and won the McKenzie River 50K in a course-record 3:42:50 (his wife Sara also set the women's 50-and-over age-group record at the same race). Beyond racing, Ticer is known across the Pacific Northwest ultra community for hand-crafting wooden clocks that are awarded to winners of the Where's Waldo 100K, turning a woodworking hobby into one of Oregon trail running's most distinctive race-day traditions.
