About
John Tidd is an American ultrarunner long based in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain, who built one of the most durable resumes on the European mountain circuit through his 40s and 50s. He ran UTMB five consecutive years from 2011 to 2015, placing as high as 9th, and was named to the International Skyrunning Federation's 2012 elite ultra roster, racing regularly alongside the sport's biggest names at the North Face Transgrancanaria, where he reached the podium in the early 2010s. In 2017, at age 53, he chased the John Muir Trail's Yosemite-to-Whitney FKT, running roughly 72 hours — about four hours faster than the existing record pace — before a wrong turn near the Whitney summit in the dark cost him the official mark just minutes before the cutoff, a run he called 'the adventure of a lifetime' despite falling short. His younger brother Bill Tidd is also an accomplished American ultrarunner.
