About

Josphat Kiprotich is a Kenyan mountain runner born on July 2, 1993, with road running personal bests of 13:38 for 5,000m and 59:35 for the half marathon who has made a significant transition into mountain running as part of Kenya’s extraordinary cohort of high-altitude mountain specialists. He earned a bronze medal at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in the vertical uphill discipline (42:04) and has consistently challenged the top of the Kenyan mountain running hierarchy — Kipngeno, Kiriago, Saoli, Machoka, and Omaya Atuya — in WMRA World Cup events, recording multiple second-place finishes on the European circuit. He placed fourth at the 2024 Val Bregaglia Trail, one of the World Cup’s most technically demanding mountain courses. His combination of exceptional road speed and growing mountain running ability makes him a formidable and improving force across both the vertical and longer mountain disciplines.
