About

Jules-Henri Gabioud is a Swiss mountain guide, ski instructor, hiking guide author, and ultrarunner born June 27, 1987 in Orsières in the Val d'Entremont, Valais — a village of 800 inhabitants he calls his anchor point in a life lived largely in motion. Nicknamed "Lord of the Ice," he discovered ultra-trail in 2003 when he watched the UTMB passage near his home and immediately abandoned road cycling to enter mountain running — launching a career exceeding 100 races. He established himself as Switzerland's master of the world's longest, hardest mountain events: he won the Tor des Géants (330km, 24,000m of gain) in 2011, then conquered the Tor des Glaciers (450km, 30,000m) — one of the most extreme endurance competitions on the planet — in 2021 alongside Luca Papi. With his brother Candide he won the Petite Trotte à Léon (PTL), UTMB's trio team event crossing the highest passes around Mont Blanc, in both 2021 and 2022. International victories include the Ultra Trail Atlas Toubkal in Morocco (2014), Trail Verbier St-Bernard (2014, 2016), and the Annapurna Mandala Trail in Nepal (2018 and 2019). In summer he guides across the Swiss Alps and authors hiking guides; in winter he teaches ski mountaineering. He founded AlpsXperience to offer trail running training courses.
