About

Kurt Madden, born in 1955 in San Diego, California, is the first-ever Ultraman champion, winning the inaugural Ultraman World Championship in Hawaii in 1983 and winning again in 1985. He turned professional as a triathlete in 1980, lining up for just the third Ironman ever held, in Oahu that year. Over a five-decade career he has competed in the Ironman World Championship ten times, finished in the top 10 of his age group three times, and completed his 50th career Ironman at Kona in 2024. He was the Ironman All World Athlete (AWA) age-group world champion for the M60-64 division in 2015 and was ranked No. 1 in the world in his age group from 2016 to 2018. Madden holds a master's degree in Exercise Physiology from San Diego State University and has spent over 25 years coaching multisport athletes, founding the coaching service TriPrime and serving as a TriDot Founding Master Coach.
