Lauren Puretz is an American ultrarunner and practicing gynecologic surgeon who competes at the highest level of the sport while raising two young children and maintaining a full surgical career. She broke into the national top tier at the 2024 Black Canyon 100K, placing third to earn a Golden Ticket to the Western States 100. In 2026 she placed fifth at the Chianti Ultra Trail by UTMB 120k, earning another Western States Golden Ticket entry. One of the most prominent examples in contemporary trail running of an athlete competing at the elite level entirely outside a professional racing contract.
