Lindsey McDonald is an American ultrarunner based in Flagstaff, Arizona, whose path to the sport ran through collegiate track and field rather than trails: she ran the marathon for Park University in Missouri and earned All-America honors with a 5th-place finish at the 2013 NAIA Championships in 3:00:52. After burning out on the roads, she was introduced to trail running by Kansas City's "Wyco Wolfpack" running community and shifted to ultras around 2019, winning the Whiterock Ultra 50K outright in 2021 after finishing 6th there in 2019, and racing the Black Canyon and Gorge Waterfalls 100Ks. She stepped up to the 100-mile distance for the first time at the 2023 High Lonesome 100 in Colorado, entering off the waitlist on a sponsor entry from rabbit, and finished 3rd in her debut in 26:59:20 — training alongside eventual winner Georgia Porter. McDonald has said her muscle typology suits high altitude, which shaped her choice of the 10,000-14,000-foot High Lonesome course for her first 100-mile start.
