About

Liza Howard (full name Elizabeth Howard) is an American ultrarunner based in San Antonio, Texas, who launched her competitive running career in her late thirties and rapidly became one of the most decorated 100-mile racers in North America. Raised partly in West Berlin during her father's military service, she previously worked as a wilderness medicine instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School before turning to running full time. She has won the Leadville Trail 100 twice, the Rocky Raccoon 100 twice, the Umstead 100, the Cactus Rose 100, and the Javelina Jundred 100, and claimed both the USATF 50-Mile Road Championship in 2017 and the USATF 100K Road Championship in 2018. She continues to compete at the elite level well into her 50s and also serves as the race director of the San Antonio Marathon.
