Madeline Wighardt is a Canadian ultrarunner and chemical engineering student who has quickly emerged as one of the sport's most promising young mountain racers. She chose the prestigious JFK 50 Mile in Maryland as her ultrarunning debut after watching YouTube race documentaries, finishing 11th in the competitive 2021 field, before breaking through with a 3rd-place finish at the Leadville Trail 100 in Colorado in 2023 -- a result that put the trail running world on notice. In 2024 she made her Western States 100 debut, finishing 24th woman. Sponsored by Stoked Oats, she has said she performs best when she runs by feel rather than fixating on splits and data.
