About
Maggie Guterl is an American ultrarunner and Tailwind Nutrition's Athletes and Events Manager, based in Durango, Colorado, who in October 2019 became the first woman in history to win Big's Backyard Ultra outright — outlasting every man and woman in the field across 60 consecutive loops (250 miles / 402km in 60 hours) until no one else could continue. A three-time Barkley Marathons entrant who has pushed through multiple loops at the notoriously brutal Tennessee event, she has also won the Brazos Bend 100 outright and the Cocodona 250, and created her own solo 'Durango 7 Summits' challenge — a self-supported 100km loop hitting the seven major peaks surrounding her home. Known for fierce competitive instincts, dry humour, and the capacity for self-motivated suffering that produces victories without crew or fanfare, Guterl is one of the most distinctive and beloved personalities in the American ultra scene.
