About
Marcelle Puy, known across Réunion Island as "La Reine" (The Queen), is a French trail runner from La Possession, Réunion, born in 1970 and the most decorated athlete in the history of the Grand Raid de La Réunion. The youngest of 14 children, she won the Diagonale des Fous on her very first attempt in 1995 — an extraordinary debut by a road runner with no mountain experience and no knowledge of the course. She went on to win four more times (2002, 2007, 2008, 2010) for five titles in total — the most by any woman in the race's history. In 2002 she became one of the very few women ever to break into the top 10 of the overall classification, finishing 10th overall. Across nine participations and 30 years she has accumulated eight podium finishes, and in 2024, at age 54, she won the Métis Trail in 7:17. A sporting icon of Réunion Island.
