About
Maria Semerjian is a French physical education teacher from Toulouse who has been one of the most quietly consistent performers on the European mountain ultrarunning circuit for nearly two decades. She began running in early 2008 and entered her first Diagonale des Fous — the 160-kilometre island crossing of La Réunion — in 2009, establishing the most demanding of the long-distance mountain ultra formats as her natural territory. Across approximately 60 career starts she has recorded around six outright victories, including the Grand Raid des Pyrénées (2012), and roughly twenty top-three finishes. Her standout international results include a 7th place at UTMB in 2013; 3rd at the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji in 2014 (27:16); 3rd at the Tor des Géants in 2016; and 3rd at the 100 Miles des Alpes Suisses in 2017. She has also achieved four top-10 finishes at the Diagonale des Fous across 14 editions of the race. A long-term athlete on the i-Run team and a regular contributor to Distances+ magazine both as athlete subject and as writer, Semerjian is a cherished and respected figure in the French and European trail running community.
