Masatoshi Obara is a Japanese mountain ultrarunner and longtime member of the Answer4 team who has competed at the top of Asian trail racing for well over a decade. A regular at the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji (UTMF) since his debut in 2012, he has finished as high as 4th (2019) among other top placings, and carried that form onto the world stage with an 8th-place finish at UTMB Mont-Blanc that same year. He represented Japan at the 2016 Trans Peneda-Gerês World Trail Championships in Portugal, and has continued to podium into his forties, winning the Shinetsu Five Mountains Trail 100 Mile in both 2023 and 2025 and the Trainic-World 100 Mile in 2023, as well as taking the overall win at the FTR Chichibu & Okumusashi 50K in 2024.
