Matthew Hammerton is a British trail ultrarunner and NHS general practitioner from Winchester, England, whose career demonstrates that elite performance and a full professional life are not mutually exclusive. A specialist on technical, hilly terrain, Hammerton holds the course record at the Centurion Wendover Night 50km and has established himself as one of the United Kingdom's most consistent sub-100 and 100-mile ultra trail competitors. He finished third at the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia 50K in both 2022 and 2023, fourth at the Centurion South Downs Way 100 (100 miles) in 2024 in 15:04:40, and won the Centurion South Downs Way 50 outright in 2026. He also completed the UTMB CCC (86km) in 2023.
