Paul Sweeney is a longtime Truckee, California ultrarunner and member of the Donner Party Mountain Runners club, married to fellow elite ultrarunner Betsy Nye. He has finished the Hardrock 100 eleven times, part of a combined 31 Hardrock finishes between him and Nye, and has also competed at the Western States 100. In July 2025 he crewed for his wife's 20th Hardrock 100 finish, the couple describing the race as being "in our DNA."
