Ryan Montgomery is an American ultrarunner and LGBTQ+ community builder based in Park City, Utah, who uses he/they pronouns and identifies as gay and genderqueer. He ran cross-country and road races before discovering ultra distances, and has since accumulated over a dozen hundred-mile finishes with consistent podium performances across the full range of American ultra formats. In 2022 he founded Out Trails, a trail and ultrarunning community for LGBTQ+ athletes that has since grown into one of the sport's most active inclusive communities. Montgomery placed second at Javelina Jundred in 2021, third in 2023, seventh at Western States 100 in 2023, and took the non-binary category at the Boston Marathon in 2024. In June 2026 he delivered the signature result of his career, finishing third at Western States 100 in 13:53:55 — under the previous course record — in one of the race's most competitive editions. A Gnarly Nutrition athlete, Montgomery is one of the sport's most psychologically honest voices about the realities of long-term competitive ultrarunning.
