About

Sheila Avilés Castaño (born 7 July 1993) is a Catalan trail and sky runner from the Catalonia region of Spain and one of her country's most decorated mountain runners. She began running at age 10 in athletics and, after years competing on the track and road, discovered trail running in 2016. The transition proved decisive: she won the Skyrunner World Series overall in 2017 and 2019, dominating the global sky-distance circuit over two seasons. Her 2022 victory at the OCC by UTMB — a 55 km race from Orsières to Chamonix — confirmed her ability to perform at the very top level of UTMB-circuit competition. She has represented Spain at multiple Trail World Championships and placed third at the 2019 edition. A sponsored adidas athlete who trains in the Pyrenees, she is one of the most consistent mountain ultra runners Spain has produced.
