Stu Gibson is a Scottish-born ultrarunner who has been based in Melbourne, Australia for much of his career, where he became one of the country's premier long-distance trail athletes. An unusually versatile competitor, he is a dual international in distance running and mountain biking with appearances at the Commonwealth Games and European Athletics Championships. On the trails, he won the Ultra-Trail Australia 100 km and set the event's course record at 9:31:11, and also won The North Face 100 Australia, Bogong to Hotham, and the Cradle Mountain trail race. He placed 11th at the Marathon des Sables, fourth at the 2013 North Face 100k Hong Kong, and eighth at the IAU Trail World Championships. One of Australia's most celebrated distance athletes of his generation, Gibson combined a long career on mountain and desert courses with continued competition into his late career.
