Sunmaya Budha is a Nepali trail runner from Jumla who overcame extraordinary adversity — nearly dying of malnutrition as a child and facing an arranged marriage at 16 — to become the 2025 World Trail Majors champion. She left home with almost nothing and began competing in 2016, rapidly rising to the elite level after moving to Kathmandu. In January 2025 she demolished the Anta Guanjun Hong Kong 100 women's course record by 27 minutes (11:11:47), then won silver at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Spain, and clinched the World Trail Majors title with victory at Ultra-Trail Cape Town — the first Nepali athlete ever to win the global series. A Kailas FUGA-sponsored athlete, Budha is one of trail running's most extraordinary stories.
