Hardrock records, Badwater on the start line, and a tighter Crewed app

Hardrock delivered

Hardrock 100 wrapped up a couple of weeks ago now, and it deserves a proper mention because the racing was exceptional. Ludovic Pommeret — 51 years old — won his third consecutive title in 21:11:36, a new clockwise course record. At an age when most ultrarunners are winding down, he's setting records at one of the hardest 100-milers on the planet. On the women's side, Courtney Dauwalter took her fourth Hardrock win, extending a run at Silverton that's hard to overstate. Results like this are exactly why we built Crewed — races this good deserve to be easy to follow, not buried across five different sites.

Badwater 135 starts in hours

And we're not done with the desert yet — Badwater 135 sets off from Death Valley later today, with runners taking on 135 miles through some of the hottest conditions in ultrarunning. The men's field is wide open this year: Ivan Peñalba López has been the most consistent presence at the front, with three runner-up finishes since 2022, and Harvey Lewis returns at 50 for his 15th consecutive finish, chasing history as much as a result. Keep an eye on the women's field too — it's stacked with athletes capable of a big day.

One honest note: we don't have a live feed built into Crewed for Badwater yet, so you won't find it inside the app today. In the meantime, you can follow live splits and results directly here: Badwater 135 live tracking.

What we've been doing to the app

Away from the racing, we've spent recent weeks on work that won't show up as a flashy new feature but matters just as much: making the app you already have more dependable.

Race-start notifications — the alert that tells you a runner you follow is about to start — now come straight from our servers instead of relying on your phone to remember to fire them on its own. If you've ever had a notification for a big race just... not show up, this is aimed squarely at that. It should now arrive reliably no matter what your phone's battery settings are doing in the background.

We've also trimmed the app down. A few tools that never really found their footing have been removed, so the parts you actually use — the feed, the race calendar, athlete tracking — get more of our attention and work better as a result. And we've quietly tightened up how your data is handled on our end, the unglamorous kind of security work that you should never have to notice, which is the point.

Where iOS stands

We know a lot of you are waiting on iOS, and we haven't forgotten — we haven't launched it yet, but the work this cycle (including squashing a compatibility issue that was blocking our iOS builds) is a real step toward getting there. More on timing soon.

Thank you

None of this happens without people actually using the app, following along, and telling us what's missing or annoying. So — thank you. We're going to keep listening, keep shipping the unglamorous fixes alongside the exciting features, and keep working to make Crewed the best way to support the runners you care about.
