About
Alun Powell is a British ultra-trail runner best known for a string of strong results at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) family of races in the late 2000s, a period when the Chamonix-based event series was still establishing itself as the sport's premier proving ground. He finished 2nd overall at the CCC in 2006, followed that with a 3rd-place finish at the CCC in 2008, an 8th-place finish in the flagship 163km UTMB itself in 2007, and a 3rd-place finish at the TDS in 2009 — a remarkable run of podium and near-podium results across three different distances within the same race week over four consecutive years. Across his career he has finished 32 ultra-distance races, with his UTMB results standing as the high-water mark of a long and consistent competitive record.
