About
Andreas Reiterer is an Italian trail runner from Hafling in South Tyrol who co-runs the family hotel Viertlerhof and works in the kitchen between races — a grounding contrast to his world-class competitive results. He came to trail running after suffering two ACL tears as a youth alpine skier ended his ski career; invited by colleagues to a mountain run, he immediately felt at home on steep technical terrain and began competing in Skyraces and vertical kilometre events in 2014–15. He stepped up systematically from there, becoming a four-time Italian national trail champion and earning two World Mountain and Trail Running Championship medals — silver in 2023 (Innsbruck-Stubai, Trail Long 86km) and bronze in 2022 — before winning the 2024 Eiger Ultra Trail by UTMB 101k. A La Sportiva team athlete with a UTMB Index of 917 who prefers steep, technical courses that reward his climbing efficiency, Reiterer is one of Italy's most admired figures in mountain ultra running.
