About

Arnau Julià i Bonmatí is a Catalan firefighter, mountaineer, and ultra-trail runner born in Anglès, La Selva in 1974 who became one of Spain's most accomplished mountain ultra competitors of the early 2010s. He works as a firefighter with the Grup de Recolzament d'Actuacions Especials (GRAE) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and brought an alpine precision and methodical approach to racing that saw him win the TDS (Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie) at the 2013 UTMB World Series — the 119-kilometre course from Courmayeur over the Italian and French Alps to Chamonix — with a time of 15:09, one of the highest-profile wins ever recorded by a Spanish ultra-trail runner on the UTMB circuit. That same year he also finished second at the Ultra Trail de Barcelona (114 km, Sitges to Collserola) and was named Catalonia's ultraresistance champion. He is additionally known for completing two consecutive loops of the Carros de Foc — the 55-kilometre circuit linking all nine mountain huts in the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park — in under 24 hours, a demanding mountain challenge he completed in a single push.
