About

Azara García de los Salmones is a Spanish professional trail runner born on June 18, 1983 in Los Corrales de Buelna, Cantabria, who began her athletic career at age eight and became the first fully professional female trail runner in Spain. Starting in vertical kilometre events — winning her first trail race, the Fuente Dé Vertical Kilometre, in 2010 — she rapidly progressed to become one of Europe's most decorated mountain ultra competitors of the 2010s and early 2020s. She won the Zegama-Aizkorri mountain marathon in 2015 to claim the European Skyrunning Championship title, was a three-time World Championship runner-up at distances ranging from 45K to ultra trail, and became a dominant force at the Transgrancanaria, winning the Classic (80 km) in both 2017 and 2021 and the Advanced (65 km) in 2023 — putting her within reach of the all-time women's record at that race. She won the Mozart 100 by UTMB in 2022 and opened 2026 with victory at the Vouga Trail 50K in Portugal. Having trained solo since becoming a mother more than 14 years ago, she signed with the Kailas FUGA team in April 2026. She coaches runners through her website azaragarcia.es.
