About
Aziza Raji is a Moroccan trail and ultrarunner from the Valley of Roses region between Marrakech and Ouarzazate who became a pioneering figure in women's ultramarathon running in Morocco. She began running at 14 in a conservative rural community where sport for women was uncommon, rising through trail and desert racing to win the 2021 Marathon des Sables — becoming only the second Moroccan woman ever to win the iconic six-stage Saharan race, completing it in 30:30:24. Her career also includes victories at the 2016 Trans Atlas Marathon (170 miles) and the 2016 Oman Desert Marathon. Raji is widely regarded as a role model for women across Moroccan and North African sport.
