Betsy Nye is an American ultrarunner from Truckee, California, who did not run her first ultra until age 33 and then built one of the most decorated 100-mile records of her generation over the following two decades. She won the Wasatch 100 six times, setting a women's course record of 23:15:18 in her tenth start at the race and breaking the 24-hour barrier for the first time in that same run. She has finished the Hardrock 100 seventeen times, winning it three times; her long love affair with that San Juan Mountains race made her one of the most recognizable figures in its history. In 2018 alone she was undefeated at 100 miles, winning four technically and geographically distinct races: the HURT 100 in Hawaii, Ronda dels Cims in Andorra, Angeles Crest 100 in California, and Javelina 100 in Arizona. She also placed second among women — eighth overall — at the 200-mile Tahoe 200 in 75:07:32. By the time she reached 100 career ultra finishes at age 51, she had averaged nearly six ultra races per year since 1998, establishing one of the sport's most sustained records of consistency at the elite level.
