About
Blake Wood is an American ultrarunner and retired Los Alamos National Laboratory research scientist (Ph.D. in electrical engineering, UC Berkeley) who became one of the sport's most durable veterans after moving to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1992. He set the Hardrock 100 course record in 1999 at 30:10:00 and went on to finish the race more than 20 times, including his 20th finish at age 57 in 38:30 (41st overall). He attempted the Barkley Marathons eight times between 1997 and 2011, completing the full course once, in 2001, along with seven 'Fun Run' finishes. Still competitive into his 60s, he has run sub-3-hour marathons 41 years apart and a 5:21 mile at age 60. For more than 20 years he has served as an assistant coach for Los Alamos High School cross country and track and field, and helps organize the Jemez Mountains Trail Runs.
