Caleb Olson is an American ultrarunner who grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where his father introduced him to backpacking and mountaineering, laying the foundation for a career in mountain running. He ran cross country in high school originally to supplement his soccer fitness before realising that distance running suited him far better, and after relocating to Utah at the end of 2017 he quickly immersed himself in the local trail running community, completing his first 50k just months after arriving. His rise through the ultra ranks accelerated in 2025 with one of the most dominant single-season performances in recent American ultrarunning: in February he won the Transgrancanaria Classic 126k in Gran Canaria in a course record of 12:17:25, becoming the first American man to win the race; in June he won Western States 100 in 14:11:25 — the second-fastest finishing time in the race's 50-year history, just two minutes off Jim Walmsley's 2019 course record — on his second attempt after a fifth-place debut in 2024. He rounded out the year with a win at the Grampians Peaks 100 in Australia. A Nike ACG-sponsored athlete ranked second in the 2025 UltraRunner of the Year standings and third worldwide, Olson is one of the most exciting young talents in the sport.
