About
Carl Johan Sörman is a Swedish trail runner born July 21, 1976, who built one of the more unconventional pathways to the sport's elite. After sporadic road running in his youth, the demands of work, injury, and raising a family pushed training almost entirely to the side. A move to Tuscany, Italy, reignited his running, and within three years of returning to the sport seriously he had established himself among Europe's best long-distance trail runners. In 2017 he won two prestigious Tuscan ultra-trails back-to-back: the 58km Trail del Montanaro in September and the 90km Trail del Cinghiale in an emphatic 10:14:23. In 2019 — only his third year competing at the ultra-trail level — he broke into the global elite with standout results across the European circuit. He has since relocated back to Sweden and continues to compete internationally, posting the best Swedish finish (21st place) at the 2022 European Trail Running Championships.
